About Modern Green Mother

I am a wife, and homeschooling mom of two amazing children. I have a passion for art, sewing, and green living and these passions are the fuel for making this blog. In the past I have taught art and sewing to both kids and adults and it is something that I love to do. Now that I am a mom, I am inspired to live a more sustainable lifestyle because I feel it’s our job to make sure we leave our children and future generations with a clean and healthy planet.

I have always enjoyed painting and creating; art was my favorite subject in school. My newest art interest is Eco-Art, where I give new life to old junk. I really enjoy making crafts with my kids by reusing things that would either be recycled or thrown away. Not only do we have fun together, it teaches them the importance of reusing too!

Sewing is a hobby I have been doing since I was a kid. I have saved lots of money by making repairs and alterations for my family. I am fascinated with up-cycled clothing and have been up-cycling some of my own clothes that I no longer wear and transforming them into something new.

Green living has been a big part of my life. I have always been a nature girl, but I never realized how far I would take it. I have been on a mission to remove chemicals and toxins from our home. I make most of our own cleaning products and many beauty products too. It’s fun to make them, and it saves us money and gives me peace of mind knowing what we are using in our home and on our bodies.

Gardening is another hobby of mine that is rewarding in more ways than one. There is nothing better than being able to pick fresh food from your own backyard. I am still learning as I go, but get a little bit better each and every year. Our family composts all of our food scraps to get organic fertilizer for our garden and it has dramatically reduced the amount of trash we send to a landfill.

I believe a blog is a great way to teach others some of the skills that I have learned throughout my life. With this blog, I hope to inspire YOU to live a simple and green lifestyle, appreciate nature and all its beauty, learn some new skills, try some yummy recipes, and save money at the same time. Not only may this information be helpful to you, but it will help me too because I can have all of my favorite information all in one place. While I already have a lot of information that I plan to share through this blog, I will be taking my time with this project because I am just enjoying life and relishing motherhood; I am having too much fun spending time with my kids!

The Earth is the one thing ALL of us have in common. It’s our job to keep it beautiful and healthy; we can’t expect someone else to do it for us. We should all do our part, no matter how small. Let’s work together to make the Earth a better place. And don’t forget, one person CAN make a difference!

    • Thank you so much Julie! That is awesome you are into gardening too! We’ve had raspberries growing in our yard before we moved here. They spread quite a bit, but I just have to figure out a way to get them to produce more. We just planted some blackberries this year too! Great to hear from you!

  4. I live in south Lyon and wonder if you make house calls to teach about sewing machines. If so, how much would you charge. Thanks!
